Build a StewMac Acoustic Guitar Kit

Part 1: Saturday, March 21, 2026, 3 PM - 9 PM

In this two day, 12 hour total, weekend class, students will build their own guitar from a StewMac Guitar Kit (StewMac 16631 - Retail - $399.99) which is included in the cost of the class. This is an easier class than our normal Acoustic Building Class as more of the work is done for you so it is great for Teenagers and also Adults who are looking to build their first guitar. Passang Bhote is a talented Luthier and a patient instructor. He will walk you thru completing the kit. He will also explain the steps to put a finish on your guitar which you will do at home after the class.

Lathe Tool Sharpening

Tuesday, March 24, 2026, 6 PM - 9 PM

Devon brings his knowledge of sharpening to this course that is a necessity for all turners. It covers the basics of grinders, grinding wheel selection and setup, various jigs and their applications, and specific techniques for sharpening scrapers, gouges and skews. Students will have a chance to work on their own tools during the practice session so bring all of your turning tools and learn how to sharpen them!

Focus On The Skew

Wednesday, March 25, 2026, 6 PM - 9 PM

The Skew is a favorite tool for experienced turners, thanks to its effectiveness and versatility. However, it can be a tad scary to use, and does require some practice. So, learn from a Pro and take the class from Devon Palmer, to learn how to sharpen & set-up different types of Skews, learn how to make all seven (7) of the basic cuts as well as advanced techniques applicable to spindle and pen turning. You'll come away with familiarity with one of the most versatile tools in woodturning!

Pens, Pens, Pens

Thursday, March 26, 2026, 6 PM - 9 PM

This is a great way to learn about turning wood on a Lathe. Before you buy a Lathe, you can learn about how to safely use it and the tools and accessories needed to make a ballpoint or Rolling Ball pen and also pencils! Once you gain this experience, it opens up the opportunity to take a number of other turning classes we offer. Turning items on the Lathe will allow you to make items for yourself as well as distinctive and beautiful gifts for friends and family. Students in this class will learn how to cut pen blanks, drill and mount the blanks on the lathe, turn the pen barrels and apply the finish. The final step will be assembling the pen. Each student will complete a pen they will be proud of during the class to take home and show friends and family.

Wood Inlay Ring

This class is a great way for you to learn to make your own wood inlay rings, using the lathe and your own scrap wood. Ring sizes are required upon signing up for the class so if the store doesn't have them we can get them ordered for you (if we have to order your size, make sure to allow time to come in)! The instructor will bring several types of inlay species to choose from, to make your ring unique! Each student will come away with some familiarity with using a mandrel and bushings on a lathe, as well as some basic jewelry inlay techniques, not to mention their own beautiful ring, and the knowledge to make more! Parent/Child Pen Turning

In this class, both parent and child will work together to turn their own ink pen in this introductory course in woodturning. Each one will mount, turn and assemble their own wood blanks then assemble creating a lasting memory of the experience.

You heard correctly.....time to add a new class! We have been working on how to get this done! Devon is ready! This is a two night class (both on Thursday @ 6 PM one week apart) where we will use a router table to prepare the White Oak pieces, glue them together in the first night and then in the second class, turn them to form on a lathe, char/burn the inside and then maybe, if there is time, mozzie on down to Stone Bar and Grill and do a little tasting! You may need a friend to pick you up! You will make at least two of them!

Explore woodturning with this introductory class to spindle turning. Learn how to use and sharpen basic woodturning tools: spindle gouges, roughing gouges, scrapers, parting tool and the skew. We'll cover basic safety, lathe setup, mounting/chucking of wood and basic cuts with each of the tools. We'll finish the day using the developed skills in turning and finishing a bottle stopper.

Rough To Ready/Cutting Board

Join Passang in this basic class which is a great hands-on introduction to most key woodworking tools - a must for all beginning woodworkers. Each student will receive a rough sawn board which they will proceed to mill (flatten, square, and cut) to a useful, final dimension to make a cutting board. The power tools you'll use in this class include the miter saw, band saw, table saw, jointer, and planer.

Crushed Stone Inlay Ring

This is NOT a Beginner Class.In this course, students will learn how to turn a small wooden bowl from green wood. They'll go through the process of selecting, preparing, and mounting the wood on the lathe, discuss tool selection/use and sharpening, shaping/turning of the outside/inside, sanding/finishing and drying of green wood.

Turning A Fishing Lure

Thursday, April 16, 2026, 6 PM - 9 PM

Fish on! Every tackle box needs a classic surface lure for attracting monster muskie, pike and bass. In this class, Tom Wood will teach students to turn the wood into the correct form, apply the outer skin, and seal a torpedo style fishing lure. The final step will be mounting the hardware and hooks. The students will take home the fishing lure that they complete. For those new to turning on a Lathe, it will give you the opportunity to understand how much fun it is. The next step would be to take Tom's Pens, Pens, Pens class or our Spindle turning class taught by Devon Palmer.

Date Night - Turning A Harry Potter Wand

It's a Date! You are always looking for something fun to do, well, here it is! Due to the popular nature of the Harry Potter Movies and also our Date Night Turning Classes, we are combining them! Each couple will enjoy a Pizza Dinner, while the instructor explains and demonstrates the entire process, then you'll get your chance to turn your own wand; it's a great beginner project, so NO experience is necessary! You will learn how to prepare a wood blank, mount it on a lathe, turn it to your version of a Harry Potter wand, then sand and finish it! It will be ready when you leave to perform your every wish! Turn An Acrylic Cigar Pen

Students will learn how to turn and customize their own Cigar style pen with an emphasis on Acrylic/alternate materials. This differs from Wood pens with the following points: tool selection and edge profiling best suited for turning acrylics, drilling bits and strategies to counteract meltdown of the blank and creating a clean thru-hole, pen tube selection and dealing with semi-translucent pen blanks, finishing/polishing with Micromesh and plastic polish. Devon Palmer will walk you thru the steps to create a pen you will be proud to give as a gift or keep for yourself! Salvaging & Using Wood From Blowdown & Dead Trees

With more than 64 species of wood in Ohio, woodworkers have a great opportunity to salvage and use wood from local blown down and dead trees. Join tree farmer Randy Sanders to learn how he turns blowdown and dead trees into slabs, flitches, picture frames, benches and other one of a kind products. Using a power point presentation and wood examples, Randy will discuss the process and show what equipment is needed to log, mill and dry the wood and work with slabs and flitches. Learn how to have a log milled to produce flat sawn, quarter sawn and book matched flitches, or edged lumber. Also learn about the unique and beautiful wood from native and rarely used trees like redbud, black locust, persimmon and sassafras and how to find a sawmill. Benefits from salvaging wood from local dead trees include - lower costs, controlling if chemicals are used in the process, specialized cuts, and beautiful one-of-a-kind final products. The class will consist of approximately 3 hours of slides and 1 hour of Randy talking and showing how he makes products out of the slabs and flitches.

This is a great opportunity to make a Tele-Type Guitar for yourself or give the class as a gift for someone that loves to play guitars! This class is designed to accommodate the beginner/intermediate woodworker in building their own electric guitar learning basic woodworking techniques in the process. The process will be broken down in bite sized tasks that enable the student to get a clear understanding of the various steps in making an electric guitar. This is not a kit guitar! You are building it from scratch! You will learn how to make a body, hand carve a neck, install a truss rod and install the fret board after you install frets and slot a nut. Finally, you will learn how to wire it up (CTS Pots and Switchcraft Output Jack) and to properly setup a guitar to play perfectly for you. Each guitar will be completed before leaving the class, however, painting/finishing the guitar will be left to the student to complete after the class at home. Finishing techniques will be discussed to provide guidance and David will be available to answer questions after the class. This is a great opportunity for a Parent and Child to take a class on Lathe Turning! In this class, each will make a pen for Dad, and one for the Child. Devon Palmer will walk you through the steps for each pen. You will cut the blanks, drill holes for the brass tubes, glue them in place, trim and flatten the ends, mount on the lathe, turn the blanks down to the bushings, sand and put a durable finish on the blanks and then assemble the pen! Once you turn a pen, you will be able to do one on your own, if you have the tools. Children should be at least 8 years old.

Knowing Ohio Woods Better: Wood ID 101

Ohio woodworkers, builders and others are fortunate to live in a state with such an abundance and diversity of tree species. Join tree farmer, sawyer and woodworker Randy Sanders to learn more about Ohio's hardwoods and softwoods. He has logged, milled, dried and worked with more than 35 species during the past 12 years. Using PowerPoint presentations, handouts and wood samples, he will discuss the basic properties, structures and uses of these woods. More than 30 species of Ohio wood will be viewed and discussed. Randy will show the different ways lumber and flitches are cut from logs as well as common defects and anomalies such as spalting, burls and black knot disease. Students will gain a better understanding of common wood terms including grain (straight, spiral, edge, top, end), figure, ray flecking, ring-porous, and others that will help you begin the process of wood identification and better understand what you see looking at wood. All will leave with two wood samples (one each of ring-porous and diffuse porous).
