The thickness of the project can be changed by varying the thickness of the center section. The objective of this class is to teach students how to cut thick pieces of wood and how to assemble them into a piece that exceeds the cutting capacity of the scroll saw.

Elevate your woodworking by learning to cut the pinnacle of woodworking joints, the hand cut dovetail. Hand cut dovetail joints are strong, beautiful and can differentiate your work from the run of the mill. The dovetail joint is not that difficult to execute once someone shows you how. In this hands-on class you will learn how to do layout and marking, sawing and chopping, and paring to your lines for a good fit. The class will cover both through and half-blind dovetails. This class is hands-on, so bring a dovetail saw, pencil, marking gauges, sliding T bevel, combination square, a set of sharp bench chisels and a mallet. If your chisels are not sharp consider taking the Hand Tools Sharpening class taught at Woodcraft. If you don't own all of these tools yet, bring what you have and borrow the rest in class. Scroll Saw an Egg Shaped Candy Dish

The objective of this class is to demonstrate the technique for making a candy dish or bowl without using a router or lathe. We will also be using a router with a round-over bit to create a round-edge profile. We will also use a spindle sander or a disk sander, whichever is more appropriate. Two pieces of wood will be used, one for the body and another for the base. Also, we will discuss ways to increase the height or width of the dish. However, for this class the dimensions will be approximately 5” wide, 8 ½” tall and ¾” deep.

This class on hardwax oils will cover what they are, where to use them, and how to apply them. Products include General Finishes Hard Wax Oil, Rubio Monocoat, Osmo Polyx-Oil, Odie’s Oil, Briwax and Tried & True. Learn the differences between the one part and two part applications. We will also review the N3 Nano product and how to apply it. The class includes a hands-on session applying the one part products to a sample board. There will not be hands-on use of the two part versions (added hardener/catalyst) or N3 Nano due to the need to use respirators and proper ventilation. A sample board will be provided for you to apply the finish of your choice in class. Bring your own cutting or charcuterie board to finish in class if you like.
