Woodworking III (Fine Furniture Series): Console Table

This is a 4-day comprehensive fine furniture building continuation of Woodworking I and II. The primary focus of this advanced class is compound cutting on the bandsaw and and shaping with a new set of skills and tools not previously introduced. Other topics covered will include floating table top design techniques and integrated apron construction, structure and functionality, and precision jig work for exposed dowel joinery. Developing upon the skills and techniques learned in Woodworking I and II, students will build a beautiful high-end console, entry, or hall table. Leg and apron wood selection is up to the instructor, and is subject to wood availability at the time of the class. Students will be asked to choose and purchase wood for their table top and lower shelf. Consultation with the instructor is required no later than one week prior to class, and student's wood choice must be pre-approved and provided to the instructor no later than one week prior to class. NOTE: Please do NOT wait until the last minute for this! If your wood selection does not work with the project, you will need to identify, purchase, and provide an appropriate alternate to the instructor no later than one week prior to class. At the end of class, students will have completed their table to take home. The final finish will be up to the student. Students wishing to learn more about finishing are encouraged to enroll in our hands-on "Finishing Basics" class here in our Colorado Springs store. NOTE: This class is scheduled only once or twice per year, and class size is limited. Please confirm your spot early, as this class is not scheduled very often!!! Standby students and partial payments will be accepted, but full payment is required to confirm your enrollment. Please Wear Clothing Appropriate For The Wood Shop. This Includes Closed-Toe Shoes, Long Hair Tied Back, No Loose Fitting Clothing Or Loose Cords/Ties (such As Hoodie Ties), No Jewelry. Students must provide their table top and lower shelf material. The Art of Shaker Oval Box Making: Raleigh Lockhart has been a skilled Shaker Box Maker for many years, and we are excited to be offering a class. Raleigh will begin the class by sharing the rich history and class overview of Shaker Oval Box Making. This will include History for Shaker Box Makers, Shop Safety, Tools used for the class and wood selection. We will then build three classic Shaker Bentwood Keepsakes - this is a great opportunity to learn this lost Art of Shaker Oval Box Making so you too can become a Shaker Box Maker!

Woodturning 101 - Amazing Apple Project

In the Morning Session – We will begin with the A, B, C and D’s of Woodturning – Focusing on the Foundation of Woodturning. This will include lathe history, Shop Safety, tool selection, sharpening, woodturning tools and wood selection. We will also discuss with the students the different woodturning tools available, the different styles, we will demonstrate how to sharpen and how to use your woodturning tools. We will go over wood grain, density, moisture content, domestics vs. exotics, how to correctly prepare turning blanks, the various methods of mounting your work on the lathe, and much more. In the Afternoon Session – we will apply your morning skills to turn the Project for this Class. This class is a must to accelerate your skills for turning bowls, boxes, platters, and various woodturning projects. This is a hands-on class … so if you have woodturning tools, bring them so you can sharpen and use them in the class!
